  1. In the history of bubbles, the recent folly in Iceland will get prominent mention. In a Vanity Fair article, Michael Lewis writes about how a tiny nation famous for glaciers, hot springs and volcanoes became in effect a giant hedge fund employing huge leverage with familiar results. I found the link through the Stingy Investor website.
  2. With many investor portfolios reeling from the stock market slump a lot of blame (whether real or imagined) is directed towards financial advisors. This New York Times article describes what clients should (and shouldn’t) expect from their advisors.

That VF Iceland article was a good read. During my bartending years the large groups of Icelanders (?) who travel over to Dublin for their xmas shopping were my least favourite customers by a wide margin – rude, aggressive, macho, spendy, dismissive and couldn’t handle their campari. We often ended the night by breaking up fights between them. Now trust the money to the women to manage, indeed.
