I have been using UFILE for at least 5 years. My tax return is fairly complex but UFILE has handled it well. Despite the fact that it would not allow some easy data importing features, I have been using it without complaining.
BUT now, I am reaching the end of my patience. Their support SUCKS!!! No telephone number to call, in this day and age. On top of that, you can just wait, and wait, and wait for the response to your email. If I do not hear from UFILE by next Monday (today is Wed), I will be looking for some other alternative.
Can somebody tell me how good is H&R Block software?

I have encountered a problem with the 2010 software on Schedule 11 for tuition and education expense.

Line item 11 should pull the taxable income amount from line 260 of your tax return. It doesn't, it populates some random number. I contacted Ufile 3 days ago about this by email (no phone support - very bad customer service!). Still waiting for a reply. No way for me to fix this as it is a software error.

If you are a student or preparing a return for a student make sure to check the calcuations.

Just a quick update to my May 8, 2010 at 12:57 am rant. I eventually did hear back from UFile. It took some time and a number of emails, but they did apologize and ultimately provided a more than fair resolution.

Cheers,
Nick

I've used UFile for many years. Until this year, I'd only ever had one problem (a minor miscalc which was later resolved). My experiences this year however have been absolutely horrible. I took up an early payment discount offer in Feb but when I went to file online during tax time, there was no credit on my account and I was asked to pay again. I sent multiple emails (the only way you can contact UFile) over a week’s time to request some assistance, but I never heard back (aside from a useless auto reply). My only option now is to pay again or redo my taxes and file elsewhere. Will have to try QuickTax ... looks like you get what you pay for. UFile has a good program but really poor customer service if there are any issues -- not a good mix for something as time-sensitive and important as filing your taxes.

Ufile does not work for freign tax credit. I believe there is a bug in Ufile for filling the freign tax credit for the Federal and Province. After I use Ufile to get supprise higher tax own ,even bought 8 K from Bank of Montreal to pay balance owing because I never thoght there was bug in the Ufile. The problem was Ufile let the Federal Freign Tax Credit Line 1 equal to Line 3; This made the province freign tax credit line 1 minused line 2 ( this should be from T2209 line 3) to be zero, finally your Province or tearritorial foreign tax credit to be zero, then whatever you paid to freign conutry to be useless to deduct your province tax and baseed on your netincome you had to pay province tax. I had e-mail times to Ufiel, Ufile wanted to let me send my Ufile file to them, I did not but send some screen shots in PowerPoint to let they know what I thought but did not get feed back for what the problem was. I was told . So, I begin to hand calculate my tax return and found the problem as above.
When I use Ufile I felt it was not too bad to feel use frendly. But I am sure it does not work for Foreign tax credit return. Hope Ufile will solve this problem for tax 2010..

Hello Janet,
You did not give any details regarding your computer but it may have to do with other programs such as Download Accelerator and NView can cause UFile to stop responding or freeze up. If you can locate these files in /Task Manager/, you should select them one at a time and click "*End Process*" for each one.

When you cannot click Next or if the program "freezes", it is probably due to another application running that handles the Active X controls and blocks UFile from using them, thus causing the program to freeze.
If you can disable or even turn off these third party programs, you might find that UFile will stop freezing. Antivirus, anti-spyware, and firewalls all could have options to control Active X. You should review all
those installed and running on your system.

I, like a lot of others tried U-file last year because of the limits placed on Quick tax. I would have been better off doing it by hand. It did not prompt for missing info. If you do not know how to do income tax, this is not the program for you. if you want a quick way to do your taxes, this is also not for you. If you know how to do income tax and just don't feel like writing down the info, this will be fine. I will never buy this again - would rather pay the extra and buy Quick Tax Gold. Not only that, but both returns I did came back with different refund amounts and both we reassessed so wonder if Revenue Canada knows something about this product.

We bought UFile and we are not having a good time. First off, they're slow to return the requests, they don't have a phone number to call. Anyways, my question is how I should go with the fiscal year thing. I have a rental propertyI bought in October 2007 and another one I bought in May 2008. But whatever option we choose, it gives an error message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yours truly,

It's been impossible to netfile with Ufile 2008....on one computer it blocked Explorer, and after I installed it on my son's computer, it won't download any updates! I've had to use System Restore on my computer and it's removed Ufile and is finally able to connect to the Internet. It's been completely frustrating, and Ufile's customer service absolutely stinks! Too bad - the program is easy to follow but I won't use Ufile again.
