New look and feel
I hope you’ve noticed that the blog’s look has changed slightly. I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments section. I think the new look and feel is a huge improvement and though I’ve tested the site on Firefox 3.0, Internet Explorer 7.0 and Safari 3.2, it is inevitable that you’ll find bugs in the site. If you do, please let me know in the comments and I’ll try and fix it ASAP. Also, if you are a RSS or email subscriber, would you mind visiting the website and providing your feedback. Thank you.
There will be no post on Good Friday and Easter Monday. Happy Easter everyone!

I’m not so sure I don’t like that the title is so plain. When I first loaded this post up after reading it through the RSS feed I thought the title was part of the ad above it. Other than that it looks like a nice simple design.
A change is sometimes a good thing, you may inspire me to do something about my “tired drab look” as well.
Have a great Easter!!!
I like it. Subtle change with ad placement & orientation of the blog & I like the RSS at the top of the fold.
Good job changing small things, but not drastically changing it all.
Looks fine to me, if somewhat plain-looking. I agree with Traciatim that the title could use some pizzaz.
Have to add yet another comment that everything looks great except the plain title. Surely one of your readers has some artistic ability… maybe make it a contest.
I agree about the title needs to stand out more. As well as search field could stand to be frame so you can see it a little easier.
I’m reading with Firefox 3 on a Mac… Next to the “Subscribe with RSS/Email” icons, there are bullet points that appear just outside the rest of your page boundaries. I think it would look better without those bullet points altogether
I think it looks good. I agree that the search area needs to be more defined.
It is nice to see a clean uncluttered site.
I like the new look, gotta add some red, make it look more Canadian.
The only thing i would worry is the big banner at the very top, if its bigger then your actual title banner, then it may turn some people away from the site, thinking you just want to make money.
Here’s my list of to-do’s so far:
1. Add more sparkle to the tile. Make it bigger to standout from the ad unit.
2. My original intention was to put Search to the right. Put a ‘Search:’ label to make it standout.
3. Bug in bullet points next to the Subscribe (thanks Jason).
Thanks everyone. Really appreciate your feedback.
Looks pretty good!
Looks fresher and cleaner. The advertising stands out more and there’s less of it.
The blog name does not standout and the logo is inconsistent with the penny you’re using on Twitter and the Canadian Money Forum.
The tagline is a tad dull — truly Canadian
Why don’t you mention your Twitter feed?
The colours for the Do-It-Yourself Financial Webring at the bottom of the page do not seem to match the rest of the site.
There’s a nice series underway right now at Problogger: 31 Days To A Better Blog
I’m not a designer and would like to improve Riscario Insider but don’t know how to tweak the template. At least you can!
CC how much of work are you doing on the style sheet ?
I miss the blogroll down the righthand side of your site, as I normally check your site first each morning, and then link through to all the others from your site.
@mfd: A lot. I’m not very familiar with CSS, so it is heavy going.
@JG: I’m going to add header feeds from my favourite blogs in the sidebar. Meanwhile, the same blogroll on the sidebar can be found here:

Ya I felt the same way CC until I started using the current theme on my site. The style sheet was well organized and let me visualize how it all works.
I use to hate them but now I realize how powerful they are. I think the key is to picture that each div tag is its own box and you can do whatever you want within the box no matter how deeply its nested.
I’d recommend installing my Blue Zinfandel just to play around with the style sheet because its really clean and straight forward. As well install Theme Test Drive wordpress plugin. It will allow you to test different themes and the changes you make without impacting your readers.
@Riscario: I’m looking into getting a very nice graphic done for the header. I’m a programmer and though I don’t know CSS/PHP, it isn’t difficult for me to pick up. I’ll mention the Twitter feed as well. Thanks
Look good – very easy to read.
The banner up top might be a bit big.
Perhaps, make Canadian Capitalist a bit bigger?
I love it! Clean and professional!
bullets also show up with Google Chrome
There is a silight problem in that the comments are sometimes cut off on the left hand side. I’m using IE7 on XP with a 1024 wide screen. SO far the only way to see the whole comments section, without the left side being cut off , is to click in the “Leave a Comment” box.
ghandy: Thanks. I think the bullets should be fixed now.
