It is doubly so for Canadians, who unlike our friends south of the border, don’t have tax deductibility on mortgage interest. Therefore, for most of us, pre-paying the mortgage is one of the best investment options available. In an environment of low investment returns, a guaranteed, tax-free return equal to the mortgage interest rate might be the best option.
