I discovered that I lost all my points I had been saving for years as well. As far as I can tell, the class action lawsuit is still active, so make sure to sign up to play your part. We can't let them get away with it.

Reading these stories has left me like most of you....pissed. I too had 43,000 points being a loyal traveller to Air Canada that I had accumulated over the years. hoping to save this for a trip. But this new rule has turned my account to zero. So the struggling Air Canada wins again. They loose another customer.

I share the same infuriating sense of being robbed with so many of you. I went to book my flight to go to a wedding of 2 friends only to discover my 33000 points were stolen back by the company that issued them, Aeroplan. I had saved those over several years and stopped collecting because I knew I had enough and it took too long (so I didn't bother replacing my lost card)
Now, I can't decide what will be more costly and annoying for them...do I never use them again and stick to Airmiles? OR do I get a new Aeroscam card every year and let it expire with just a couple of miles on it... and then get another one that they have to do ALL that paperwork for...blah blah blah... I think the point of them getting rid of miles like mine is to get rid of customers like me so that they can cut costs. I think I will be LOYAL to their SCAM and faithfully get a new card EVERY YEAR so that they can cancel all 10 miles that I collect on it :)

I used to work for a large technology company in Canada and travelled extensively across Canada and the USA. Our corporate carrier was Air Canada, and I had an Aeroplan card where I accumulated in excess of 100K+ air mile points. At that time, that would have got me two flights, first class to pretty well any destination in the world. I changed jobs, and the new company used a different carrier for travel, so I did not use my Aeroplan card..To my surpise, I went to redeem my points wanting to surprise my wife with a trip and learned that my account had expired and that I could not redeem my points, unless, similar to what is described above, I agreed to "purchase" them back. I never received the "letter" they sent out via bulk mail, and there was no negotiating with them..I wrote letters..Threatened to take them to court for the value of the flights..They replied that there was no monetary value to the air miles, yet I had to purchase them back at a cost, so they were obviously worth something...I now fly with a different carrier who gets all my business, and have recommended the same to many, many friends and business associates...I too would like to know if there is something that can be done..A friend told me that something was reported on CTV, or CBC about a month ago on this..but I missed it..

[...] that’s not true of many Aeroplan clients. Many years after Aeroplan changed the rules regarding expiry, many find too late that the tens or even hundreds of thousands of miles they’ve accumulated [...]

I just realized that we have lost over 100,000 points between my husband and myself. Is there anyway of getting these points back? I am in the same situation as all the email that I have read above ... surprised that I have lost all my points, never received any notification, have to pay 1 cent for ever mile plus $30 etc. etc. This is frustrating and unfair!

If you want to sign up for this class action suite you can do so online at:
http://www.merchantlaw.com/classactions/aeroplan.php
These the ives must be stopped. I lost 40,000 points today, and only noticed when expecting to book a trip to Mexico for a family wedding, after years of saving points through business travel. Down with Areoplan!!! I will actively post everyone so you can all get involved also.
