I also use the costco amex (I received a $500 cheque last week for 2008 spendings) and the rbc gold reward (no fee)
for car rental and everywhere the amex is not accepted.

One thing though, the costco amex is only worth if you spend at least $10000 per year - as the first 5000 does not give you 1.5%

I used to use PC Mastercard, until I went to Florida and had to rent a car. I had to pay $25 a day for insurance.

I now use a CIBC Infinite Aeorgold, pay $150 a year for two cards and this year, when I rent a car for 9 days. I will not have to pay $225 for the insurance.

The card has already saved me money, plus I get Aeroplan miles.

[...] Frugal Canadian has posted a nice chart summarising the benefits of the various popular credit cards. I use the Costco Amex Platinum card (no annual fees and a reward of up to 1.5% in the form of a Costco rebate cheque) for most purchases and the PC Financial MasterCard as a backup. Readers have also pointed out that Citi Driver’s Edge MasterCard is an attractive option. [...]
