How Much for that Pair of Khakis?

June 5th, 2006 · No Comments

Would you pay $1,055 (US) for a pair of men’s khaki pants? Last weekend’s Financial Post featured a story titled “Men’s khakis get hefty price upgrade”, which mentions that the pricey khakis are available from Dsquared2. The story also mentions that Polo Ralph Lauren is selling four khaki models humbly named Milkman, Postman, Bartender and Poolman that sells for a hefty $298 (US) per pair.

I only noticed the story because I am shopping for a few pairs of khakis and I can usually buy Dockers at Costco for about $30. Ironically, another column in the same page talks about marketing to women and this is how it begins:

Men shop out of need. Women shop for fun.

Oh sure, men “need” pants that costs a grand each.
