Remember the brouhaha over the cost of natural gas mere months back? Fortunately, we had a relatively mild winter, natural gas prices tumbled and Enbridge (TSX: ENB) announced recently that starting April 1, 2006, it will charge 33.8 ¢/m³ down 18% from the previous quarter. Natural gas has now fallen back to the price range of the past few years.

If you think that gas prices are going to go up next winter (or that we aren’t going to be as lucky next winter with respect to the temperatures) this might be a good time to lock into a 5 year rate. Direct Energy was recently advertising a 5 year rate that is less than the current Enbridge rate but I have a feeling that offer is going to suddenly disappar at the end of this week (as you mention the new Enbridge prices take effect on Saturday).
