Dogs of the Dow is a familiar strategy of buying the 10 highest yielding stocks from the DJIA and holding them for one year. At the end of the year, the old dogs are sold and new dogs bought. For 2005, SBC Communications, GM, Altria, Merck, Verizon, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, Dupont, Pfizer and GE make up the list. Free research reports for the Dow components can be found at Value Line.
Rob Carrick, personal finance columnist for the Globe and Mail newspaper, writes about the dogs of the TSX in a recent column. The list includes familiar dogs like Laurentian Bank, Rothmans, Torstar, TransAlta etc.
